Wild Recall Tyler Pitlick Amidst Eriksson Ek Injury Concerns
The Minnesota Wild have recalled forward Tyler Pitlick from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild, following an injury to Joel Eriksson Ek. Eriksson Ek sustained a high stick injury near his eye during Friday's game against Utah. While the team is assessing the injury, the expectation is that Eriksson Ek will be sidelined for Sunday's game against St. Louis. However, the injury is not believed to be long-term.
Eriksson Ek is a key player for the Wild, currently ranking third on the team in scoring with 17 goals and 25 assists in 54 games this season.
Pitlick's recall marks his third time being called up from Iowa this season. He has also cleared waivers three times. The 34-year-old forward has played in 31 games with the Wild this season, scoring two goals and recording 76 hits while averaging just under eight minutes of ice time per game.
In the AHL, Pitlick has been more productive, scoring eight goals and three assists in 12 games with Iowa. Despite his offensive success in the minors, he is expected to fill a limited role on the fourth line if he plays for Minnesota.
The Wild had an open roster spot available after sending David Spacek back to Iowa earlier in the week, so no additional roster moves were necessary to accommodate Pitlick's recall. The team now has the maximum of 23 healthy players on their roster.
BNN's Perspective:
The Wild's decision to recall Pitlick is a practical move to address a potential short-term loss of a key player in Eriksson Ek. While Pitlick's offensive contributions have been limited in the NHL this season, his experience and willingness to play a physical game can provide valuable depth. The team's ability to absorb the recall without making additional roster adjustments indicates a degree of flexibility and preparedness. Hopefully, Eriksson Ek's injury is minor, and the Wild can maintain their competitive edge.
