Suits LA Canceled: Why the *Suits* Spinoff Didn't Make the Cut
The legal drama *Suits* experienced a massive resurgence in popularity after hitting Netflix in 2023, fueling anticipation for its spinoff, *Suits LA*. However, NBC has made the surprising decision to cancel *Suits LA* before its debut season even finished airing.
Despite the buzz surrounding the original series, *Suits LA* failed to capture the same magic. Critics, including the New York Times and The Guardian, offered harsh reviews, describing the show as "flat" and "unsexy." This, coupled with lackluster ratings, ultimately sealed its fate.
Jeff Bader, President of Program Planning Strategy for NBCUniversal Entertainment, cited the show's lack of resonance and limited growth potential as the primary reasons for the cancellation. He emphasized that the network considered both linear and digital performance when making the decision, prioritizing shows with the strongest prospects for future success.
*Suits LA*, set in the same universe as the original *Suits* (2011-2019), featured a cast including Stephen Amell, Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, and Bryan Greenberg. Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman, stars from the original *Suits*, made appearances, with Macht reprising his role as Harvey Specter and Hoffman making a guest appearance.
The cancellation of *Suits LA* was announced alongside the axing of other NBC shows, including *Night Court*, *The Irrational*, and *Lopez vs. Lopez*. While the show won't be returning for a second season, fans can still catch the finale of *Suits LA* on Sunday, May 18, at 9 p.m. ET. The series is available to stream on Peacock.
