Warner Bros. Delays M. Night Shyamalan's "Remain" to 2027
Fans of M. Night Shyamalan will have to wait a bit longer for his upcoming film, "Remain." Warner Bros. has announced a shift in the release date, pushing the premiere from October 23, 2026, to February 5, 2027.
The film, based on a novel co-written by Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks, features a romantic storyline. The studio cited the strong presale performance of its upcoming film "Wuthering Heights" as a key factor in the decision. The studio also noted the high test scores "Remain" has received, marking the highest in Shyamalan's career.
"Remain" stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an architect grappling with depression after the loss of his sister. He travels to design a summer home and finds himself falling for a mysterious woman, played by Phoebe Dynevor. The cast also includes Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare, and Maria Dizzia.
The film's narrative is based on a shared love story. Shyamalan and Sparks independently developed a screenplay and a novel, respectively, based on the same original concept. The novel version of "Remain" was released in October 2025 and quickly became a New York Times bestseller. Sparks is an executive producer on the film.
The production team includes Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures, alongside Marc Bienstock and Theresa Park. The film's cinematography is handled by Adolpho Veloso, who was recently nominated for an Oscar.
BNN's Perspective: While delays are often disappointing for audiences, the studio's decision to reposition "Remain" suggests confidence in its potential. The success of the novel and the high test scores are promising signs. The shift also allows for a more strategic release, potentially maximizing the film's impact.
