San Diego Braces for Warmer Weather and Breezy Conditions This Week
San Diego County residents can expect a shift towards warmer temperatures this week, according to the latest forecast released Monday. The National Weather Service predicts a dry and slightly warmer pattern, with Memorial Day seeing highs 2 to 6 degrees higher than Sunday.
Inland valleys and the high desert will experience temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. Downtown San Diego is anticipated to start cloudy in the morning, clearing up in the afternoon with a high near 70 degrees and an overnight low around 60. Coastal areas will range from the 60s to mid-70s, while the low deserts will sizzle with highs in the upper 90s. The county mountains will remain cooler, with highs in the 50s and 60s.
Breezy winds are expected, particularly on coastal mountain slopes and into the deserts. A small craft advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Monday until at least 2 a.m. Tuesday for waters from San Mateo Point to the Mexican border, extending out 10 to 60 nautical miles, including San Clemente Island, due to harsh sea winds. A beach hazard statement is also in effect through late Monday for coastal San Diego County.
Marine forecasts indicate a moderate-risk rip current on Tuesday, with surf from 2 to 4 feet and mixed swell. Northwest wind gusts of 20 to 25 knots are expected Monday afternoon and evening in outer coastal waters near San Clemente Island. No additional hazardous marine conditions are expected Tuesday through Friday. Expect night and morning low clouds and fog throughout much of the week.
BNN's Perspective: While the warmer weather is welcome, it's important to stay informed about the potential hazards, especially for those planning beach activities. The rip current risk and strong winds warrant caution. It's always wise to check the latest forecasts before heading out and to heed any warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
