Four Noncitizens Charged with Illegal Voting in New Jersey Elections

Federal prosecutors have charged four noncitizens with illegally participating in multiple federal elections and providing false information during their U.S. citizenship applications. The charges, announced on Friday, stem from alleged violations of federal law related to voting and naturalization processes.

According to criminal complaints filed in New Jersey's federal court, the individuals are accused of voting in at least one federal election, including the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the charges on social media, specifying that the defendants, all noncitizens, participated in the 2020 presidential election, the 2022 midterms, and the 2024 presidential election cycles.

The defendants are identified as David Neewilly, Jacenth Beadle Exum, Idan Choresh, and Abhinandan Vig. They are accused of registering to vote in New Jersey while not U.S. citizens and falsely certifying their citizenship status on voter registration forms. Furthermore, prosecutors allege that the defendants later falsely stated on naturalization applications that they had never registered or voted in federal elections.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized the Justice Department's commitment to protecting the integrity of U.S. elections, stating that the administration will not tolerate non-citizens attempting to vote. U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer echoed this sentiment, highlighting the office's dedication to holding accountable those who attempt to circumvent voting laws and the naturalization process.

The charges include voting by an alien in a federal election, making false statements related to naturalization, and unlawful procurement of citizenship. Court appearances have already taken place for some of the defendants.

BNN's Perspective:

While any instance of voter fraud is concerning and should be thoroughly investigated, it's important to maintain perspective. These charges, while serious, involve a small number of individuals. The focus should remain on ensuring the integrity of the electoral process through robust verification measures and transparent investigations, while avoiding the temptation to use isolated incidents to undermine public trust in the overall system.
