The University of North Carolina (UNC) has issued a statement clarifying the status of Bill Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, at the school's football facilities. Contrary to earlier reports, UNC confirmed that Hudson is welcome at the facilities, despite a report suggesting she had been banned.
The initial report, which surfaced Friday morning, came from Pablo Torre, host of the "Pablo Torre Finds Out" podcast. Torre claimed sources indicated a decision had been made to restrict Hudson's access. He also mentioned concerns from Belichick's family about the potential impact on his legacy.
UNC's official statement, released later in the day, stated that while Hudson is not a university employee, she is welcome at the football facilities. The statement also noted that Hudson manages activities related to Belichick's personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football.
Torre, in response to UNC's statement, doubled down on his reporting, stating that his information came from high-level sources within the football program. He also highlighted that his team had requested comment and filed numerous Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests that were not satisfied.
This controversy follows Belichick's recent appearance on "CBS News Sunday Morning" to promote his upcoming book. During the interview, Hudson interjected when questioned about how she and Belichick met. Belichick defended her actions, stating she was "simply doing her job." The interview, coupled with Hudson's frequent social media posts about their relationship, has fueled public interest in the couple.
Belichick, who signed a five-year deal with UNC and will earn $10 million this season, was hired as the Tar Heels' head coach in December after a successful run with the New England Patriots. He is set to make his college football head coaching debut on September 1st.
