UCLA Quarterback Iamaleava Returns to Practice, Status Uncertain

LOS ANGELES - UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava participated in drills Tuesday morning, raising hopes for his return to the field after missing the Bruins' recent game against Ohio State due to concussion-like symptoms. The redshirt sophomore took part in individual drills alongside backup quarterback Luke Duncan, who started in Iamaleava's absence.

Interim head coach Tim Skipper stated that Iamaleava, along with offensive linemen Garrett DiGiorgio and Reuben Unije, were initially in the training room before practicing. The team practiced on the intramural fields due to field conditions following weekend storms.

Coach Skipper emphasized that the starting quarterback decision remains day-to-day, and no decisions will be made regarding Duncan's role until the injury situation is clearer. Tight end Jack Pedersen noted the positive atmosphere during practice.

UCLA, currently 3-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play, suffered a 48-10 defeat to Ohio State, marking their third consecutive loss. This is the first time Iamaleava has missed a game this season. The team is looking to end the season on a positive note, with the looming possibility of Saturday's game being the Bruins' last home game at the Rose Bowl.

Defensive lineman Keanu Williams, a redshirt senior, reflected on his collegiate career, which began at Oregon in 2021 before transferring to UCLA. He offered advice to his younger self, emphasizing perseverance and maintaining a positive mindset.

BNN's Perspective: The uncertainty surrounding Iamaleava's status adds an element of intrigue to UCLA's upcoming game. While the team faces a challenging season, the return of key players and the opportunity to end the season on a high note could provide a much-needed boost for the Bruins.
