Twins Narrow Down Managerial Search After Disappointing Season

The Minnesota Twins are nearing a decision on their next manager following a dismal 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs and lose over 90 games for the first time since 2016. The team's poor performance led to the firing of manager Rocco Baldelli, opening the door for a new leader to guide the team back to contention.

According to reports from The Athletic, the Twins have narrowed their search to four candidates: Derek Shelton, James Rowson, Scott Servais, and Ryan Flaherty. Several other potential candidates, including Vance Wilson, Nick Punto, and Ramon Vasquez, are no longer in consideration.

Of the remaining contenders, Shelton and Servais bring previous managerial experience to the table. Shelton previously managed the Pittsburgh Pirates, taking the helm in November 2019 but was let go in May 2024. Servais managed the Seattle Mariners, leading them to a Wild Card spot in 2021, their first postseason appearance since 2003. However, he was fired in August 2024 after a season collapse.

Flaherty has interim managerial experience, having filled in for Bob Melvin with the San Diego Padres in June 2022. He currently serves as the bench coach for the Chicago Cubs. Rowson is the only candidate without prior managerial experience, but he has a history with the Twins, having served as their hitting coach from 2017 to 2019. Shelton also has experience with the Twins, serving as the team's bench coach before his stint with Pittsburgh.

The Twins are looking to rebound from a disappointing season, and the selection of a new manager is a crucial step in that process. The team is expected to announce their decision soon, and the baseball world will be watching to see who will take on the challenge of leading the Twins back to the playoffs.

BNN's Perspective: The Twins' managerial search highlights the volatility of the sport. While experience is valuable, the recent firings of Shelton and Servais demonstrate that past success doesn't guarantee future results. The Twins' decision will be critical, and the chosen manager will need to quickly assess the team's needs and implement a strategy to return the franchise to its winning ways.
