Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday appealed to the High Court in the western state of Gujarat seeking a stay of conviction in a defamation case, challenging a lower court's ruling against his plea, his lawyer said. Gandhi was convicted last month in a case brought by a state lawmaker from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after comments he made that were deemed to be insulting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other people surnamed Modi. The 52-year old scion of India's Congress party was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.

Fox News agreed Wednesday to hand over thousands of documents to voting machine company Smartmatic, which is suing the network for defamation in a case similar to Dominion Voting Machines' just-settled lawsuit. In the wake of its historic $787 million settlement with Dominion, Fox News will now turn over additional evidence as part of the ongoing $2.7 billion defamation case it is facing from Smartmatic, lawyers for both sides said in court on Wednesday. Fox has agreed to turn over depositions, exhibits, and "all of the responding documents" related to a number of individuals at the company-- including Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, an attorney for Smartmatic, Edward Wipper, said in court. "We agreed that the Fox defendants will produce the depositions, exhibits, and errata, and all of responsive documents," Wipper said.
