TikTok Influencer Valeria Márquez Murdered in Mexico During Livestream

A 23-year-old TikTok influencer, Valeria Márquez, was tragically murdered while livestreaming from her beauty salon in Jalisco, Mexico, on Tuesday. According to reports, a man entered her salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, under the guise of delivering a gift before fatally shooting her.

The Jalisco state prosecutors office confirmed Márquez's death, stating that the attack occurred during a live broadcast. Disturbing video footage circulating online shows Márquez interacting with the man moments before the shooting. In the video, she expresses suspicion about the delivery, having received a call from a friend about an expensive gift that required her presence at the salon. She questioned the delivery man's insistence on her being present, foreshadowing the tragic events that would unfold.

The suspect's identity and motive remain unknown, but the Jalisco Prosecutors Office is investigating the case as a femicide, a term used when women are killed due to their gender. This investigation reflects the alarming rates of sex-based violence in Mexico, where, according to the UN, ten women or girls are murdered daily by partners or family members.

Márquez's murder has sent shockwaves through Mexican society, highlighting the normalization of violence, particularly in Jalisco and the Zapopan suburb of Guadalajara. Her TikTok account has since been deleted. Authorities are actively investigating the case, and the community mourns the loss of the young influencer.
