Charlie Woods' U.S. Open Dreams Stalled, But Progress Shows

Charlie Woods, son of golf icon Tiger Woods, once again fell short in his quest to qualify for the U.S. Open. The 16-year-old competed in a local qualifier at Wellington National Golf Club, a course designed by Johnny Miller, but his 3-over 75 wasn't enough to secure a spot in the next round.

While the result is disappointing, it represents a marked improvement from his first attempt last year, where he shot a 9-over 81. This year's performance, though not enough to advance, demonstrates progress for the young golfer. He finished seven shots outside the qualifying spots.

The local qualifier was part of the journey to the 125th U.S. Open, which will be held at Oakmont Country Club from June 12-15. The standout performer of the local qualifier was Arth Sinha, who carded an impressive 6-under 66. Sinha, along with four other top finishers, including Matthew Marigliano, Tyler Stachkunas, Carson Kiawonn, and Michael Gligic, will advance to the final qualifier on June 2nd at Emerald Dunes in West Palm Beach.

Interestingly, Charlie wasn't the only celebrity athlete trying to make the cut. Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, ex-tennis star Mardy Fish, and New York Rangers winger J.T. Miller also participated in the qualifying rounds.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, recovering from Achilles surgery, is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 season. Charlie's next competitive appearance is anticipated at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, scheduled for May 25-28.
