Three Junior Hockey Players, Including U.S. Teen, Killed in Alberta Car Crash

Calgary, Alberta – The hockey community is reeling after a tragic car crash in Alberta claimed the lives of three junior hockey players, including an American teenager. The incident occurred Monday morning while the players were en route to team practice.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the collision involved a small vehicle carrying the players and a semi-truck transporting gravel. All three occupants of the small vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver, a 40-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The deceased players have been identified as 18-year-olds JJ Wright and Cameron Casorso, both from Kamloops, British Columbia, and 17-year-old Caden Fine from Alabama. The RCMP is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

The Southern Alberta Mustangs of the U.S. Premier Hockey League, the team for which the players played, expressed profound grief in a statement, emphasizing that the young men were "more than hockey players – they were teammates, sons, brothers, friends."

The tragedy has resonated deeply across Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney offered condolences to the families, and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith expressed the province's sorrow and support for the grieving families and the team. The incident has also drawn comparisons to the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash, which resulted in the deaths of 16 people.

The Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs held a moment of silence before their game Monday night to honor the deceased players.
