Freeze Warning Issued for Parts of Wyoming
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a freeze warning for several areas in Wyoming, effective overnight Monday into early Tuesday morning. Subfreezing temperatures are anticipated, posing a risk to vegetation and outdoor plumbing.
The freeze warnings, issued by the NWS office in Riverton, are in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. local time on Tuesday. The affected areas include Jackson Hole, Star Valley, the Upper Green River Basin Foothills, and the Upper Green River Basin. Thousands of residents are expected to be impacted. The coldest temperatures are expected to reach 23 degrees Fahrenheit.
The NWS has indicated a high probability of widespread temperatures at or below freezing. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing from potential damage. This is not the first freeze warning issued by the Riverton office this season, with a previous warning issued in August. The NWS also shared images of snowfall on social media, highlighting the shift towards cooler temperatures. The NWS Climate Prediction Center forecasts a return to above-average temperatures for Wyoming and much of the U.S. between September 20 and September 24.
BNN's Perspective:
The freeze warning serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns, even as the season transitions. While the immediate concern is the protection of vulnerable infrastructure and vegetation, the forecast of warmer temperatures later in the month offers a sense of relief. It underscores the importance of preparedness and staying informed about local weather conditions.
