The Neighbourhood Announces New Album After Hiatus

The indie-pop band The Neighbourhood is set to release a new album, titled "((((ultraSOUND))))", on November 14th via Warner Records. This marks their first studio album in five years, following a three-year hiatus that began in November 2021. The band announced their reunion in August, after a period of personal challenges and individual pursuits.

Before the album's release, the band has shared three tracks: "Private," "OMG," and "Lovebomb." "Private" was created using a GarageBand drum break and a vocal recorded on a phone, while "Lovebomb" was built from a loop.

The upcoming album is described as a return to the band's roots, drawing inspiration from Brit-pop while maintaining their signature California indie sound. Lyrically, the album is said to be intimate and self-aware, exploring themes of heartbreak, disillusionment, and emotional vulnerability.

The band's lineup includes vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Zachary Abels and Jeremiah Freedman, bassist Michael Margott, and drummer Brandon Fried. Fried is rejoining the band after being removed in late 2022. The band's last release before their hiatus was "Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones" in September 2020. During the hiatus, Rutherford released two solo albums.

BNN's Perspective:

The Neighbourhood's return is a welcome development for fans of their unique blend of indie and pop. While the band's hiatus and the circumstances surrounding their drummer's departure raise questions, the focus on artistic growth and a return to their core sound suggests a potentially compelling new chapter. It will be interesting to see how the band's experiences during their time apart have shaped their music and their perspective.
