Kino Lorber has secured distribution rights for the Chilean mystery film "The Meltdown" (El Deshielo), with a planned theatrical debut in the United States in early 2027. The acquisition follows the film's world premiere in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Following its cinematic run, "The Meltdown" is slated for subsequent digital, educational, and home video releases.

The narrative unfolds in 1992, a mere two years after the conclusion of Augusto Pinochet's regime, a period when Chile was experiencing an economic boom. The story centers on nine-year-old Ins, who is staying at her grandparents' Andean ski resort while her parents attend a trade conference. During her stay, Ins forms a friendship with Hanna, a German teenager training as a competitive skier and chafing against the rigid structure of her life.
