Grauer School Robotics Team Advances to Regionals

Encinitas, CA – The Grauer School's Shockwave Robotics Team #3848 is heading to the regional competition after a successful showing at the league championships. The team competed against 21 other teams at Sage Creek High School. The San Diego Regionals are scheduled for Saturday, March 7.

According to a news release, the team was pleased with their performance. Coach Morgan Brown noted that nearly all aspects of the robot functioned effectively. The team focused on collaboration, building relationships with other teams, and developing a plan for each match. This strategy proved successful, leading to the team being selected as an alliance partner.

The team entered the day ranked in the middle based on their previous tournament results. They won four matches and lost two, ultimately being chosen to join the sixth-ranked alliance for the playoffs. They secured a victory over the third-ranked alliance in their opening playoff match but were eliminated in the subsequent round.

Beyond their on-field performance, the team excelled in the judging session. Their 15-page engineering portfolio, which detailed their engineering process, played a crucial role in their success. This, along with their teamwork and overall growth, earned them the Think Award. This award recognizes the team that best documents its engineering design journey.

The combination of their on-field performance and the award earned them enough points to qualify for the upcoming San Diego Regionals competition.

BNN's Perspective: The success of the Shockwave Robotics Team highlights the value of STEM education and the importance of teamwork and documentation in achieving goals. While the team's playoff run was cut short, their overall performance and the recognition they received demonstrate a commitment to excellence. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of the students, coaches, and the school's commitment to fostering innovation.
