Tesla Launches Cheaper Model Y, Dumps Cybertruck Range Extender
Tesla is shaking things up in the US electric vehicle market. The company has just released a more affordable version of its popular Model Y, offering a single-motor option for $44,990 – a significant price cut compared to the Long Range All-Wheel Drive model. This move comes as Tesla faces a cooling demand for its EVs in the US and Canada.
However, the news isn't all positive. Tesla has also confirmed it's abandoning plans for a range-extending battery pack for the Cybertruck. This optional extra, which would have been installed in the truck's bed, was promised during the Cybertruck's launch in 2023. Customers who put down deposits for the $16,000 pack are now receiving refunds. This means the tri-motor Cybertruck will only achieve a 320-mile range, falling short of the initially promised 500 miles. This decision adds to a string of disappointments for Cybertruck owners, who will also miss out on the promised Auto Steer technology.
The article also highlights a decline in Tesla sales in Europe, with significant drops in the UK, Denmark, and Sweden. This context suggests Tesla is responding to market pressures with these pricing and feature adjustments.
