Bradshaw Slams Idea of Aaron Rodgers Joining Steelers: "A Joke"
Pittsburgh Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw has voiced strong disapproval of the potential for Aaron Rodgers to join his former team. In a recent radio interview, Bradshaw called the idea "a joke," expressing skepticism about Rodgers' fit and longevity in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers, currently in search of a quarterback, have reportedly discussed a deal with Rodgers, the biggest name available in the free-agent market. However, Bradshaw believes the move would be a mistake. He suggested Rodgers, at 41 years old, should "stay in California."
Bradshaw's criticism extends beyond Rodgers himself. He also criticized the Steelers' handling of their previous quarterback, Kenny Pickett, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in March. Bradshaw stated that the Steelers failed to provide Pickett with adequate protection and offensive weapons, ultimately contributing to his perceived struggles. He believes the team's failures, not Pickett's, were the root cause.
The Steelers' current quarterback situation is in flux. The team's roster includes Mason Rudolph, rookie Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson. Last year, the team used Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who are now with the New York Giants and New York Jets, respectively. The team's primary QB in 2022 and 2023 was Kenny Pickett, who produced 7-5 records as a starter in each of those seasons.
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, leading them to a Super Bowl victory in 2010. He joined the New York Jets in 2023 but suffered a season-ending Achilles injury early in the season. He returned to go 5-12 as a starter for the Jets last year.
BNN's Perspective: While Bradshaw's passion for the Steelers is undeniable, his assessment seems overly harsh. Rodgers, even at his age, could provide a short-term boost to the Steelers' offense. However, the long-term implications and the potential for disrupting team chemistry are valid concerns. The Steelers need to carefully weigh the risks and rewards before making a decision.
