Nintendo Switch 2 Specs Finally Revealed: A Powerful Handheld is Coming

After months of speculation, the Nintendo Switch 2's technical specifications are finally coming into focus. GamesRadar+ has confirmed key details, revealing a system that promises a significant leap in performance over the original Switch.

The Switch 2 will feature a custom Nvidia system on a chip (SoC) called the T239. This chip boasts a GPU based on the Ampere architecture, similar to the RTX 30-series GPUs found in PCs. This suggests a substantial upgrade in graphical capabilities, with Nintendo promising "10x the graphics performance" compared to the original Switch.

While the exact performance remains to be seen, the article highlights a CPU clock of 998MHz when docked and 1101MHz in handheld mode. The GPU clocks in at 1007MHz docked and 561MHz handheld, with a theoretical maximum of 1.4GHz. Digital Foundry suggests thinking of it as a "miniaturised version" of a consumer GPU, similar to how the original Switch used a variant of the GTX 900 series.

Other notable features include support for a 1080p 120Hz display and 4K resolution in both handheld and TV modes. The Switch 2 also incorporates a custom file decompression engine for faster game loading and a GameChat feature, which developers are already testing for performance impact. With the launch just weeks away, anticipation is high for the new hardware and the games it will bring.
