Houston Police Arrest Suspect in 36-Year-Old "Lovers' Lane" Cold Case

Houston police have announced the arrest of Floyd William Parrott, 64, in connection with the 1990 "Lovers' Lane" murders, bringing a decades-long cold case closer to resolution. The victims, Cheryl Henry, 22, and Andy Atkinson, 21, were found dead on August 23, 1990, in a then-remote area of Houston. The couple had been last seen the previous night after leaving Bayou Mama's nightclub.

The investigation began when a security guard discovered an unresponsive woman near a parked white Honda Civic. Responding officers found Henry, who had been sexually assaulted and her throat cut. Atkinson was found nearby, tied to a tree with severe neck injuries.

Despite extensive efforts, including DNA collection and hundreds of leads, the case remained unsolved for over three decades. The breakthrough came in late 2025 when police received a tip naming Parrott as a possible suspect. A detective then reviewed a 1996 sexual assault case involving Parrott. DNA from that case was uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), which matched samples collected during Henry's autopsy.

Parrott was arrested on Wednesday in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is now facing capital murder charges. He is awaiting extradition to the Harris County jail.

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare emphasized the long-lasting impact of the case, stating that it had weighed on the victims' families and the community for over three decades. He praised the relentless efforts of prosecutors, the Houston Police Department, and the FBI in pursuing the investigation.
