Boulder Attack: Suspect Charged with Hate Crime, Attempted Murder

A 45-year-old man, Mohammed Sabry Soliman, has been charged with attempted murder and a federal hate crime following an attack in Boulder, Colorado, targeting a group supporting Israeli hostages in Gaza. Authorities say Soliman planned the attack for over a year, driven by a desire to harm "Zionist people." The incident, which occurred on the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, resulted in 12 injuries, with victims ranging in age from 52 to 88.

Soliman allegedly used Molotov cocktails and a makeshift flamethrower, yelling "Free Palestine" during the assault. He confessed to the attack, stating his intention to kill Zionists. Law enforcement recovered 16 unused Molotov cocktails and found papers related to Israel, Palestine, and USAID in his car. Soliman, who entered the U.S. illegally, was living in Colorado Springs with his family and had previously lived in Kuwait and Egypt.

The attack took place amid heightened global tensions surrounding the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The suspect, who was also injured in the attack, is currently hospitalized.

BNN's Perspective: This horrific act of violence underscores the dangerous intersection of political conflict and extremism. While the motivations behind the attack are clear, it is crucial to condemn such acts of violence and hate in the strongest possible terms. The focus should be on supporting the victims and ensuring justice is served, while also addressing the root causes of antisemitism and the broader global tensions that fuel such incidents.
