NBC Renews "St. Denis Medical" and "Happys Place" for Third Seasons
NBC has announced the renewal of its procedural comedies "St. Denis Medical" and "Happys Place" for third seasons, slated for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. The network cited the shows' comedic success and strong audience engagement as key factors in the decision.
"St. Denis Medical," a medical mockumentary, has demonstrated consistent performance, notably experiencing season-over-season growth in the 18-49 demographic, a key metric for advertisers. The series' January 5th episode achieved its highest ratings in the demo since its premiere in November 2024. The show features an ensemble cast. Season 2 of "St. Denis Medical" saw hospital administrator Joyce, played by Wendi McLendon-Covey, grappling with new challenges.
"Happys Place," led by Reba McEntire, has also proven successful. The comedy saw its best episode to date on January 23rd, achieving high ratings in both the 18-49 demo and total viewers. The series also experienced a significant increase in total viewers during the first quarter. The show centers on Bobbie, who inherits her father's tavern and discovers she has a new business partner, Isabella, a half-sister she never knew. Season 2 of "Happys Place" saw the reopening of the tavern and the revelation of a long-buried secret.
Both series are produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. "St. Denis Medical" is also produced by More Bees, Inc. and Spitzer Holding Company. "Happys Place" was created by Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott.
BNN's Perspective: The renewals of "St. Denis Medical" and "Happys Place" signal NBC's continued commitment to comedy programming. While the success of these shows is encouraging, the network should also consider diversifying its programming slate to appeal to a broader audience. Balancing established hits with new, innovative content will be crucial for long-term success.
