Sotheby's and Phaidon Unveil "The Jewelry Book" Exhibition
Sotheby's is partnering with Phaidon to launch "The Jewelry Book: An A to Z Exhibition," a showcase of high jewelry coinciding with the release of Phaidon's latest publication, "The Jewelry Book." The exhibition, curated in collaboration with the book's editor, Melanie Grant, features 50 pieces from both established jewelry houses and independent designers, all of whom are highlighted in the book.
The exhibition spans over 200 years of jewelry history, showcasing the transformative power of jewelry through creativity. Featured designers include contemporary talents like Taffin, Jacqueline Rabun, and Bina Goenka, alongside iconic houses such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and David Webb. The public will have the opportunity to purchase selected jewels both in person and through Sotheby's online marketplace.
The exhibition is a living rendition of the book, which took three years to complete and involved contributions from numerous advisors and experts. The book itself surveys the industry, spotlighting 300 houses, designers, collectors, and tastemakers who have shaped the field. The publication includes a diverse range of figures, from well-known names like Chanel and Tiffany & Co. to artists like Joel Marsters, Gail Bird, and Yazzie Johnson.
This collaboration marks another project between Grant and Sotheby's, following the successful "Brilliant & Black" exhibitions. Sotheby's is excited to partner with Grant on this project, which is a long-awaited addition to Phaidon's series of art books.
BNN's Perspective:
This exhibition and accompanying book offer a fascinating look at the evolution of jewelry design and its cultural significance. The inclusion of both established houses and independent designers, as well as the diverse range of figures highlighted, suggests a commitment to showcasing the breadth and depth of the jewelry world. The ability to purchase pieces directly from the exhibition adds an exciting element for collectors and enthusiasts.
