Sony Pictures Classics to Release Tourettes Drama "I Swear"
Sony Pictures Classics has secured the rights to distribute the true story drama "I Swear" in several key territories, including the United States, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Turkey, Southeast Asia, Portugal, and South Korea. The film, directed by Kirk Jones ("Waking Ned Devine"), is set in the 1980s and chronicles the life of John Davidson, a Tourette Syndrome campaigner.
Davidson, diagnosed with Tourette's at 15, navigated a world where the condition was largely unknown and misunderstood. The film's production involved close collaboration with the Tourette's community, including casting individuals with the condition and partnering with a Tourette's charity.
"I Swear" stars Robert Aramayo, Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Peter Mullan. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and has already been released in the United Kingdom. The film is produced by Jones, Georgia Bayliff, and Piers Tempest, for One Story High and Tempo Productions. John Davidson and Cindy Jones serve as executive producers.
The filmmakers expressed excitement about partnering with Sony Pictures Classics, citing their passion for the project. Sony Pictures Classics described "I Swear" as an emotionally engaging and compelling film that explores the challenges of living with Tourette's and the journey of overcoming adversity. The deal was negotiated between Sony Pictures Classics and Bankside Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
BNN's Perspective: This film has the potential to raise awareness and understanding of Tourette's Syndrome. The involvement of the Tourette's community in the production suggests a commitment to authenticity and sensitivity, which could resonate with audiences. The film's success in the UK and the backing of Sony Pictures Classics indicate a strong chance of reaching a wide audience and sparking important conversations.
