Teen and Man Charged in Triple Homicide

A 16-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man have been arrested and charged with the murder of three family members in a shocking case that has sent shockwaves through the community. Authorities announced the charges at a press conference on Friday, following the discovery of the victims at their home.

Star Grant, the 16-year-old, and Devon ONeil Loving, 28, each face three counts of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy to commit murder. Due to the severity of the charges, Grant will be tried as an adult. First-degree murder charges in North Carolina are classified as Class A felonies, carrying the potential for life imprisonment or the death penalty.

The grim discovery was made Thursday evening after deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence. The check was prompted by a concerned relative who had been unable to contact the family. Deputies had previously attempted welfare checks earlier in the week, but did not have sufficient cause to enter the home until the third visit.

Upon entering the residence, deputies found the bodies of Travis Eugene Grant, 41, Kimberly Michelle Grant, 42, and Sharon Harwood Grant, 66, all deceased from gunshot wounds. Authorities confirmed that Star Grant is the daughter of Travis and Kimberly Grant, and the granddaughter of Sharon Grant.

Investigators quickly identified Star Grant as missing and, working with multiple law enforcement agencies, tracked her and Loving across state lines. The pair were apprehended at a hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, early Friday morning. Their relationship has not been disclosed.

Both Grant and Loving, residents of the same county, are currently being held in Tennessee and are expected to face an extradition hearing on Monday. They will then be transferred back to North Carolina to face the charges.

The motive for the killings remains unknown, as of Friday afternoon. Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

BNN's Perspective: This case is a tragedy that highlights the complexities of crime and the devastating impact on families. The involvement of a minor in such a heinous act is particularly disturbing. While the investigation is ongoing, it is crucial to allow the legal process to unfold and to provide support to the community as it grapples with this horrific event.
