Easter Sunday 2026: Retailers and Services Adjust Hours

As Americans prepare for the Easter holiday, consumers should be aware of altered operating hours for various retailers and services. Many stores will remain open, but it's crucial to check local hours, as they may vary.

Several major supermarkets and retailers will be open on Sunday, April 5. These include CVS, Dollar General, Home Depot, Food Lion, Kroger, IKEA, Stop & Shop (pharmacies closed), Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Walmart, and Whole Foods (closing early at either 6 p.m. or 8 p.m., depending on location).

For those seeking a quick meal, several fast-food chains will also be open. These include Applebee's (select locations), Domino's, Dunkin', IHOP, McDonald's, Subway, and Taco Bell.

However, some popular retailers will be closed on Easter Sunday. These include ALDI, Costco, HomeGoods, Homesense, JCPenney, Kohl's, Lowe's, Nordstrom (with a few exceptions in California, Florida, and New York), Macy's, Marshalls, Michaels, Target, TJ Maxx, and Sierra. Additionally, Trader Joe's in Portland, Maine, and Whole Foods in Portland, Maine, will be closed.

The stock market was closed on Good Friday, April 3, and will reopen on Monday, April 6.

Regarding postal and delivery services, the United States Postal Service will be open, and delivery services will continue as usual. FedEx will offer partial services, with retail locations open with modified hours, and shipping limited to FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Logistics. All UPS services will be closed on Easter Sunday.

BNN's Perspective:

The varying hours and closures on Easter Sunday highlight the evolving landscape of retail and service availability during holidays. While it's understandable that some businesses choose to close, the continued operation of many essential services ensures that consumers can still access what they need. This balance reflects a society that values both tradition and convenience.
