ArtWalk Carlsbad to Feature Local Artist Mothers
ArtWalk Carlsbad is set to return for its sixth annual event, showcasing a diverse array of fine art, live music, and interactive experiences. The free event, scheduled for September 20th and 21st, will feature over 150 artists, including two local mothers whose work explores themes of unity, resilience, and the intersection of art and motherhood.
One of the featured artists is Vira Ustianska, whose artistic journey began in childhood. Her work, including the "Unity" piece from her "1000 Sunflowers" project, reflects on shared experiences and collective wisdom. Ustianska's art aims to reveal the true essence of its subjects, and she finds that balancing motherhood and artistry enriches her practice. She believes that motherhood brings resilience and emotional insight, qualities that enhance her art.
Erika Givens, another artist at the event, has a multifaceted career spanning graphic design, prop styling, photography, and mixed media wall sculptures. Givens's work includes large-scale installations, but she is also focused on creating meaningful projects, such as an 8-foot sculpture for the Serenity Prayer Room at Boston Children's Hospital. She hopes to demystify the artistic process and make art accessible to everyone. Givens draws inspiration from her three children, and her home studio serves as a creative hub for her family.
ArtWalk Carlsbad will offer a wide variety of art mediums, including painting, sculpture, glasswork, fine jewelry, and photography. The event will also include interactive art for families at KidsWalk, musical performances, and food vendors. The event is part of the ArtWalk San Diego brand, which supports its nonprofit partner, ArtReach San Diego, an organization focused on increasing equity in visual arts education in K-8 schools.
BNN's Perspective:
ArtWalk Carlsbad provides a valuable platform for local artists, particularly those who balance the demands of motherhood with their creative pursuits. The event's focus on accessibility and community engagement is commendable, and its support for art education through ArtReach San Diego aligns with the importance of fostering creativity in young people.
