Sadashiv Amrapurkar was offered 60 films after memorable performance in Ardh Satya: Didnt even know the names of BR Chopra Yash Chopra
Late actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar is remembered for his work in films like Sadak, Aankhen and Coolie No 1 but the first time he appeared in the movies was for Govind Nihalani's film Ardh Satya. Soon after Sadashiv was seen in the film, he was overwhelmed with film offers. At one point, the veteran theatre actor had over 60 film offers to choose from but being from a modest background, he faced some difficulty in making the right choices. In an old interview, shared by Harikrit Films on YouTube, the actor can be heard saying that he did not even know the names of Yash Chopra and BR Chopra when he entered the world of movies. "In those days, in 1982, I had over 60 film offers and I didn't know what to do with these many film offers. I didn't even know who BR Chopra, or Yash Chopra even were at that time. When we were kids, we only knew the names of the actors, Shammi Kapoor, or Dilip Kumar, or Manoj Kumar, we only knew of them. We never even read the names of the directors," he said. He said that the biggest of banners in the movie business called him but he couldn't understand what to do. At that time, he called up an old friend and asked him for some advice. "I called up an old friend of mine and he said that if you want to work in the movies, then you should do it for a few years , you will have some experience. That is when I started working in commercial movies and I've been doing that for so many years," he said. After the actor's death in 2014, Govind Nihalani told Rediff, "Unfortunately, actors can only choose from the roles offered to them, and he got very limited offers. But he picked the best." Sadashiv won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award for his work in Ardh Satya. Sadashiv Amrapurkar passed away in 2014 at the age of 64.
