Russell Brand Faces New Charges in London Court
London, UK - Actor and comedian Russell Brand is scheduled to appear in Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday for a plea hearing. The hearing concerns additional charges of rape and sexual assault filed against him in December 2025.
The Metropolitan Police announced in December of last year that the Crown Prosecution Service authorized these new charges. These charges involve two additional women, adding to the initial charges brought against Brand in April 2025.
The April 2025 charges included one count of rape, one count of oral rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. These charges relate to incidents that occurred approximately two decades ago.
The Metropolitan Police initiated an investigation into Brand in 2023. This followed reports on Brand by Channel 4's Dispatches and The Sunday Times, which prompted several allegations. The police have stated that the women involved in the case continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
Brand previously pleaded not guilty to the initial five charges in May 2025. He is scheduled to stand trial on those charges in June.
Following the initial charges, Brand responded on social media, acknowledging his past struggles with addiction and immaturity but denying any nonconsensual activity. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and his intention to defend himself in court.
Brand is known for his work in acting, comedy, political commentary, and as a wellness influencer. He was previously married to singer Katy Perry and is currently married to Laura Gallacher, with whom he has three children.
ABC News has contacted Brand's lawyer for comment.
BNN's Perspective: The allegations against Russell Brand are serious and demand a thorough legal process. While the presumption of innocence is paramount, the number of accusers and the nature of the charges warrant close attention. The court proceedings will be crucial in determining the truth and ensuring justice is served.
