Rome Film Fest to Honor David Puttnam with Lifetime Achievement Award

The Rome Film Fest will present its inaugural Industry Lifetime Achievement Award to British film producer David Puttnam at the opening ceremony of its 20th edition, scheduled for October 15-26. The award, newly established to recognize prominent figures in the global film industry, will be presented by Uberto Pasolini, a producer, director, and screenwriter who began his career with Puttnam.

Puttnam's extensive filmography includes four Academy Award Best Picture nominees: *Midnight Express*, *Chariots of Fire*, *The Killing Fields*, and *The Mission*. *Chariots of Fire* won the Best Picture Oscar. His work has garnered a total of ten Academy Awards, ten Golden Globes, twenty-five BAFTAs, and nine Emmys, as well as one Palme d'Or for *The Mission*.

Born in London in 1941, Puttnam began producing films in the early 1970s. In 1978, he established Enigma Productions and collaborated with directors such as Alan Parker, Ken Russell, Adrian Lyne, and Ridley Scott. He briefly served as the head of Columbia Pictures from 1986 to 1987. After returning to the U.K., he continued to produce independent films.

In the late 1990s, Puttnam shifted his focus to politics and was elected to the House of Lords in 1997. He retired from Parliament in 2021 but remains active in education through Atticus Education, which provides audiovisual seminars worldwide. He has also held leadership positions with the Film Distributors Association and the National Film and Television School. Additionally, Puttnam serves as a UNICEF UK ambassador and a WWF global ambassador.
