New Drone Offers 360-Degree 8K Video Capabilities
A new drone, the Antigravity A1, is entering the market, offering a unique approach to aerial photography and videography. The drone, an offshoot of Insta360, distinguishes itself by capturing 360-degree video in 8K resolution. This allows users to record everything around them simultaneously, eliminating the need to constantly adjust the camera angle.
The Antigravity A1 comes in three bundles, with prices ranging from $1,599 to $1,999. The Infinity bundle includes the drone, a one-handed controller, goggles, multiple batteries, and a carrying case. The drone itself weighs 249 grams, which may offer regulatory advantages. The controller and goggles are key components, with the goggles featuring dual Micro-OLED displays and an external display for software updates and sharing the view. The goggles' battery is external, improving comfort.
The drone's design is compact, folding to a size smaller than a softball. The flight experience is similar to first-person view (FPV) drones, with the user wearing goggles and using a controller. However, the A1's 360-degree capture allows the pilot to look around in any direction while flying. The drone also features anti-collision sensors, which, in testing, proved to be somewhat conservative. The drone is able to fly for approximately 18-20 minutes in less than ideal conditions.
The primary advantage of the A1 is its ability to capture a complete sphere of footage, simplifying the process for content creators. The pilot can focus on flying the drone near the subject, and the camera angle can be adjusted later. However, the reviewer experienced difficulties retrieving captured footage, which impacted the ability to fully assess the product.
BNN's Perspective: The Antigravity A1 presents an innovative concept with its 360-degree video capabilities. While the price point is higher than some competitors, the unique features could appeal to content creators. The inability to access captured footage is a significant concern, and the product's long-term viability may depend on the resolution of this issue.
