Luxury Car Rental Business Hit by Theft in Miami

MIAMI - A newly established luxury car rental business in Miami is reeling after a renter failed to return a Lamborghini STO, valued at $400,000. The incident occurred just days after the business, DRMLXRY, opened its doors. Owners Nader Zahr and his father, Sam, are now seeking answers and the recovery of their prized vehicle.

According to Zahr, the renter, identified as "Theoc," rented the Lamborghini on Saturday, providing a $1,000 deposit. Surveillance footage shows Zahr requesting the renter's identification before the transaction. The car was scheduled to be returned on Monday evening. However, Zahr received a text message from the renter's phone stating, "Theoc is in jail." Subsequent attempts to contact the renter went unanswered.

Concerned by the lack of communication and the deactivation of the vehicle's tracker, Zahr took action. A secondary tracker led him to an area near Homestead, but the Lamborghini was not found. Police informed Zahr that license plate readers last detected the stolen vehicle in Miami Beach.

This incident is particularly disheartening for Zahr, who had previously operated a similar business in Detroit before relocating to South Florida. He emphasized the effort and investment put into establishing the luxury car rental company. The renter had previously rented and returned a Rolls-Royce from the shop, which was stolen earlier this year.

Zahr and his family are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the Lamborghini's recovery. They are also encouraging anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, where rewards of up to $5,000 are available for anonymous tips. Despite the setback, Zahr remains committed to his business, expressing his passion for providing people with the opportunity to experience exotic cars.

BNN's Perspective: This incident highlights the inherent risks involved in the luxury car rental industry. While the owners are understandably devastated, it underscores the importance of robust security measures, including thorough background checks and advanced tracking systems. The fact that the renter had previously rented a vehicle from the same business raises questions about the effectiveness of their screening process. This situation serves as a cautionary tale for other businesses in the sector.
