NHL Playoffs: Ranking the Remaining Contenders
The NHL playoffs are heating up, with the field of contenders narrowing to the final eight teams. As the competition intensifies, the favorites to hoist the Stanley Cup are beginning to emerge.
Leading the pack is the Colorado Avalanche, widely considered a dominant force. Boasting offensive firepower with Nathan MacKinnon and defensive prowess with Cale Makar, the Avalanche are heavily favored to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Final.
On the other side of the bracket, the Carolina Hurricanes are mirroring Colorado's success. Having opened the playoffs with seven consecutive wins, they are proving to be a formidable contender in the Eastern Conference.
The Buffalo Sabres have emerged as a potential spoiler. After ending a nearly two-decade playoff series drought, they've shown they're not just a regular-season team. They eliminated the Boston Bruins and won the first game of the East semifinal series against Montreal.
The Minnesota Wild, despite facing a tough challenge against the Avalanche, are also considered a strong team. They are expected to fall short of the Western Conference final.
The Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks are viewed as teams with promising futures. While not yet considered top contenders, both teams are building strong rosters and are expected to be serious contenders in the coming years.
The Vegas Golden Knights, despite being a perennial contender, are considered to be one of their weaker teams. They are expected to make moves in the offseason to improve their roster.
The Philadelphia Flyers, who exceeded expectations by reaching the playoffs, are facing a difficult challenge against the Hurricanes. Their playoff run is likely coming to an end.
BNN's Perspective: The playoffs are always exciting, and this year is no different. While the Avalanche and Hurricanes appear to be the frontrunners, the Sabres' unexpected success adds an element of unpredictability. It will be interesting to see if any of the other teams can upset the established order.
