Delhi-NCR Braces for Rain: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 3-Day Thunderstorm & Rainfall
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are in for a change of weather, offering a welcome respite from the May heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, forecasting thunderstorms and rain for three consecutive days, starting today, May 8th, and lasting through May 10th.
After a week of pleasant weather, with temperatures slightly below normal, the IMD predicts light rain accompanied by strong winds. This follows a Wednesday that saw bright sunshine interspersed with cloud cover, leading to a drop in the maximum temperature. The Safdarjung observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius, 2.8 degrees below the average, and a minimum of 24.8 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees below normal.
From May 8th to 10th, expect minimum temperatures to hover between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures are predicted to range from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. The forecast extends to May 11th to 13th, with cloudy skies and the possibility of light drizzle. During this period, the minimum temperature could reach 29 degrees Celsius, and the maximum could hit 38 degrees Celsius.
This weather pattern offers a break from the typical scorching May heat, providing a more comfortable environment for residents. The yellow alert serves as a reminder to stay informed and prepared for potential disruptions caused by the rain and strong winds.
BNN's Perspective: While the predicted rainfall offers a welcome relief from the heat, it's important to remain vigilant. The IMD's alert is a good reminder to stay informed about potential travel disruptions and take necessary precautions. It's a good balance – enjoying the cooler weather while being prepared for any potential inconveniences.
