Obituary: Rachel L. Rousseau, Devoted Mother and Community Member, Passes Away

Paxton, Mass. - Rachel L. Rousseau, a former resident of Greenville, passed away on June 4, 2025, at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a period of declining health. She was 87 years old.

Born in Greenville on November 24, 1937, Rachel dedicated much of her life to her family. After marrying Ernest Rousseau in 1955, she became a stay-at-home mother, raising their five children. She was known for her commitment to her children, supporting their endeavors and creating special memories, including yearly vacations.

Later in life, Rachel assisted her husband in his various businesses, including Rousseaus Market and Kozy Korner. She also worked at The Clothes Closet in Peterborough. The couple enjoyed relaxing together, often at The Rendezvous restaurant.

Rachel cherished her role as a grandmother, especially during Christmas and at Old Orchard Beach. In retirement, she and her husband spent winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and even lived in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, for a year. She was known for her cooking, with family fondly remembering her salmon pie and birthday cakes. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with family, watching Red Sox games and Hallmark movies, reading, and coloring.

Rachel was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ernest Rousseau, and her son, Kevin Rousseau. She is survived by her daughter, four sons, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 5, 2025, at Cournoyer Funeral Home in Jaffrey, followed by a reception at Jaffrey Bible Church. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rindge Food Pantry.
