Motörhead Guitarist Phil Campbell Dies at 64

Phil Campbell, the guitarist for the iconic heavy metal band Motörhead, has passed away at the age of 64. The musician's family announced his death on Saturday, revealing he died after a prolonged battle in intensive care following a major operation.

Campbell, born in Pontypridd, South Wales, in 1961, began playing guitar at the age of 10, influenced by legendary acts like Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin. Before joining Motörhead, he honed his skills in various bands, including Contrast, Roktopus, and Persian Risk. He joined Motörhead in 1984, alongside guitarist Michael "Wrzel" Burston, replacing Brian "Robbo" Robertson.

Campbell's tenure with Motörhead spanned decades, making him the longest-serving guitarist in the band's history. He contributed to 16 albums with the group, including their 1986 debut *Orgasmatron*. Following the death of Motörhead's lead singer, Lemmy Kilmister, in 2015, Campbell continued his musical journey. In 2016, he formed Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, featuring his sons and vocalist Neil Starr. The band released their debut album, *The Age of Absurdity*, in 2018, followed by *We're the Bastards* in 2020. The Bastard Sons released a live album in 2023, and a studio album, *Kings of the Asylum*, also in 2023. Campbell also released a solo album, *Old Lions Still Roar*, in 2019, featuring collaborations with prominent musicians. He is survived by his wife, Gaynor, and their sons.
