Obituary: Susan M. King, 83, Remembered for Family, Community, and Love of Life

Lindley, NY – The community mourns the loss of Susan M. King, 83, who passed away peacefully at her home in Lindley, NY, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Waterville on February 20, 1942, to Walter L. and Grace E. (Hinkley) Marston, Susan lived a full and vibrant life.

A valedictorian graduate of Williams High School in Oakland in 1960, Susan married Paul E. King on July 20, 1963. Together, they built a life and raised their family in Oakland. Susan, alongside her husband, played a crucial role in establishing and growing King Oil Service, a well-known local residential heating oil supplier.

Beyond her professional life, Susan was known for her passions. She was an enthusiastic duplicate bridge player and, with Paul, enjoyed square dancing, forging lasting friendships on the dance floor. However, her greatest joy came from her family, especially the children who frequented their home on Messalonskee Lake.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Paul; her daughter and caregiver, Jill (Brian) Hall of Lindley, NY; her son, Bret (Dodie) King of Windham; three grandchildren, Ben (Cheyenne) Hall, Dylan (Emily) King, and Dana (Bebe) King; and two great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by Carpenters Funeral Home in Corning, NY. Susan and Paul will be interred together in the King family lot at Lakeview Cemetery in Oakland at a later date, a location close to her childhood home and the shores of Messalonskee Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal rescue or shelter of your choice in Susan's memory.
