Ruth Bunny Joan (Smith) True, a woman known for her deep faith and love of family, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 88. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing.
Born to Gordon and Annie (Chick) Smith, she graduated from Kents Hill School. She later married George R. True, and together they raised four children: Betty Jean, Pamela, George Jr., and Pauline.
Throughout her life, Ruth was an active member of various Assembly of God churches, including Readfield Assembly of God, Augusta Gospel Tabernacle, Calvary Temple and Centerpoint Church in Waterville, and most recently, Kennebec Valley Assembly of God. She dedicated her time to teaching Sunday School, leading the Little Lambs class, and serving as president of Aglow. She also played the piano, led Missionettes, and facilitated a Widows Solace Life Group.
Ruth found joy in sharing her faith with others through cards, letters, and conversations. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing daily. She also found pleasure in writing stories about her life. Her interests included traveling, camping, and cooking with family and friends. She especially cherished dining out, visiting the coast, shopping, and spending time with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her husband of 56 years, George Sr., and her daughter, Betty Jean (True) Adams. She is survived by her sister, Helen (Smith) Head, her children Pam (True) Szaro, George R. True Jr., and Pauline (True) Heath, along with eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 30, with a memorial service to follow on Saturday, January 31. Monetary gifts will be accepted to help offset travel expenses for out-of-town family members.
