NISH falls to Ponchatoula in Division I finals

The New Iberia Senior High School basketball team came up short against No. 3 Ponchatoula in the Non-Select Division I State Championship game at the Burton Complex on Saturday.
Leading 11-10 after the first period, NISH were unable to contain a dynamic Ponchatoula team that was able to dominate at the glass and capitalize on outstanding perimeter shooting.
The Yellow Jackets scored just 11 points in each of the first three quarters, adding 15 points in the fourth to end the game 63-48.
NISH struggled with accuracy, shooting 32% from the floor.
Junior forward Wayne Randall-Bashay led the Yellow Jacket offense with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists. Senior guards Kylan Dugas (16 points, 5 rebounds) and Christian Walker (9 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed well to the teams performance.
NISH ends the season with a combined 30-4 record and a District 3-5A championship.
