Nintendo to Discontinue Switch Game Voucher Service

Nintendo has announced the upcoming discontinuation of its Nintendo Switch Game Voucher service. The service, which allows players to purchase vouchers for a discounted price on select games, will end on January 30, 2026. After this date, new voucher purchases will no longer be available.

The Game Voucher program offered a cost-saving method for players to acquire multiple games. For instance, a player could currently purchase two vouchers for $99.98 and redeem them for two games priced at $59.99 each, resulting in a $20 saving.

Nintendo has clarified that any unused vouchers will expire 12 months from the date of purchase. The company has not yet revealed plans for a replacement service or if a similar program will be available for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

The Game Voucher service is a component of Nintendo's online program, which also includes a classic game catalog and a recently introduced Game Chat service. The classic game library has expanded to include GameCube titles, with Super Mario Strikers being a recent addition. Other GameCube titles available include F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SoulCalibur 2.

BNN's Perspective: While the discontinuation of the Game Voucher service may disappoint some users, it's important to remember that Nintendo is constantly evolving its offerings. The company's focus on the Nintendo Switch 2 and the expansion of its classic game library suggests a continued commitment to providing value to its subscribers. It remains to be seen what new services Nintendo will introduce, but the company's track record suggests that it will continue to innovate and adapt to the changing needs of its player base.
