Nine Inch Nails Drops Surprise Album, "Tron Ares: Divergence"
Industrial rock pioneers Nine Inch Nails, led by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have surprised fans with the release of "Tron Ares: Divergence," a companion album to the soundtrack of the upcoming film, *Tron: Ares*. The 20-track album, released on Friday, features previously unreleased music from the original score, alongside remixes from a diverse group of artists.
The album includes remixes by Meat Beat Manifesto's Jack Dangers, Boys Noize, Pixel Grip, and Mark Pritchard. Notably, Arca has remixed "As Alive As You Need Me to Be," the original version of which was released in July alongside the announcement of the soundtrack's release date. The song went on to win Best Rock Song at the Grammys on February 1st. The *Tron: Ares* soundtrack itself reached number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart on October 4, 2025.
The band's recent activity hinted at the surprise release. An image of a cyber-themed grid, resembling the album's cover art, was posted on the band's Instagram account on Thursday. This image was included among a collection of Polaroid photos of fans from the current leg of their "Peel It Back" tour. The tour, which began in June 2025, is scheduled to conclude in March.
BNN's Perspective:
The surprise release of "Tron Ares: Divergence" is a welcome treat for fans. It demonstrates the band's continued relevance and willingness to experiment. While the remix format may not appeal to all, the inclusion of new material and collaborations with diverse artists keeps the band's sound fresh and exciting.
