NASA's Psyche spacecraft, en route to its primary destination, has provided scientists with a fresh perspective on Mars, capturing images of the planet from a rarely seen angle. According to a recent NASA press release, the spacecraft's approach allowed it to photograph Mars as a thin crescent, with the sun positioned behind the planet.
This unique vantage point highlighted the wispy nature of the Martian atmosphere, revealing sunlight filtering through dust clouds suspended high above the planet's surface. The spacecraft also captured a wide-angle overhead view of the southern polar ice cap.

The primary objective of the Psyche mission remains the exploration of the asteroid Psyche, a metal-rich object that is the size of Massachusetts. The spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the asteroid in three years, where it will spend over two years surveying the uncharted territory.
