MS.NOW Launches New Website, Severing Ties with NBC

MS.NOW, formerly MSNBC, has launched a new website under the domain ms.now. The move follows the recent name change and marks a further separation from its former parent company, NBC. The new website mirrors the layout of the previous MSNBC site but features a refreshed design, including the MS NOW flag logo, replacing the iconic peacock logo.

The website launch is part of MS NOW's independent newsroom initiative, which began separating from NBC News in October. This split is a consequence of Comcast's decision to spin off its cable channels, including MSNBC. With the new domain and website redesign, MS NOW is distancing itself from its NBC roots.

Interestingly, MS NOW was unable to secure the domain msnow.com, which is currently in use. However, the company was able to utilize the .now extension, which became available approximately a year ago.

The "MS" in MS NOW, while retaining the original branding, no longer represents its former association with Microsoft, which sold its stake in the brand over a decade ago. The company now defines "MS" as "My Source for News, Opinion, and the World."

BNN's Perspective:

The rebranding and website launch represent a significant step for MS.NOW as it establishes its independent identity. While the transition may be viewed as a positive move towards autonomy, the success of the new platform will ultimately depend on its ability to attract and retain viewers in a competitive media landscape. The decision to maintain the "MS" branding, despite its historical context, could be seen as a strategic move to leverage existing brand recognition.
