New Delhi: Ashleigh De-Andrade of Southport was planning her wedding which she could not be a part of as she unfortunately passed away suddenly after complaining of a high temperature. The 31-year-oldhad three sons and her health started to deteriorate after a weekend at Hafan y Mr Holiday Park in North Wales. After returning from the holiday, she complained of a high temperature. She then went to bed for a few hours and was sweating excessively. At the hospital, she suffered multiple seizures and bleeding on the brain doctors revealed it was meningitis. What is meningitis? Meningitis refers to the inflammation of protective membranes covering the spinal cord and brain. In this condition, a viral or bacterial infection of the fluid which surrounds the spinal cord and brain triggers swelling. It can also be caused by injuries, certain drugs and due to cancer. What are the symptoms of meningitis? Apart from high temperature, meningitis can result in the following symptoms: Being sick Headaches Seizures Cold hands and feet Sensitivity to bright lights High fever anything over 37.5 degrees Blotchy rashes that do not fade away after running a glass over it Drowsiness Irritability Lack of energy Stiffness in the neck A small, red pinpricks-like rash this is considered as the classic meningitis rash. Overtime, this spreads all over the body and turns into purple blotches. Pressing the side of a glass firmly against the skin where the rash exists and if it does not fade, it could be a symptom of blood poisoning which must never be overlooked.
