Marlins to Debut Left-Handed Pitcher Against Nationals

Miami Marlins fans will see a new face on the mound Friday night as the team begins a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. Left-handed pitcher Robby Snelling, a 22-year-old prospect, will make his major league debut. Snelling was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville, where he had a strong showing this season. He posted a 3-1 record with a 1.86 ERA in six starts, ranking second in the International League in ERA and tied for second in strikeouts with 44. Opponents struggled against him, batting a mere .116.

Snelling joined the Marlins organization in a trade last July. His performance in spring training and at Jacksonville has impressed the team, earning him this opportunity. He will take the rotation spot previously held by Chris Paddack, who was designated for assignment.

The Marlins are looking to build on a recent victory, having snapped a four-game losing streak with a walk-off win against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

The Nationals, meanwhile, are coming off a 3-3 homestand, including a 7-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Catcher Keibert Ruiz had a standout performance in that game, hitting a home run and two doubles. Pitcher Foster Griffin is also a key part of the Nationals' plans. Griffin, a left-hander, has made half of his career appearances this year for the Nationals, returning to the major leagues after a stint in 2022. He is scheduled to start Friday's game against Miami.

BNN's Perspective:

The debut of Snelling offers a fresh start for the Marlins, and it will be interesting to see how he performs under pressure. The Nationals, with Griffin's resurgence and Ruiz's recent success, appear to be gaining momentum. This series could be a good test for both teams as they look to establish themselves.
