Maines D-III mens hockey teams face off in new tournament

Maine Hockey Teams to Compete in Inaugural Lobster Pot Tournament
The state of Maine is set to host its first-ever Lobster Pot Tournament, a Division III men's hockey championship featuring all four of the state's teams. The tournament, scheduled for January 2nd and 3rd, will see Colby, the University of New England (UNE), the University of Southern Maine (USM), and Bowdoin vying for the title.
The competition kicks off with UNE, currently ranked seventh nationally, facing off against Colby. Bowdoin, ranked 13th, will then take on USM. The winners of these initial matchups will advance to the championship game the following day.
Coaches from participating teams have expressed excitement about the tournament, recognizing the competitive spirit it will foster. Bowdoin's coach highlighted the strength of the competition, noting the challenges posed by Colby and the consistent performance of UNE. He also acknowledged the energy and competitiveness of USM.
The tournament provides an opportunity to showcase Division III hockey in the state. The event will also include a youth clinic and ice skating opportunities.
In other sports news, several Maine athletes are making their mark at the Division I level in women's basketball. Oxford Hills graduate Ella Pelletier is averaging 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for Stonehill College. Bella McLaughlin, a Hampden Academy alum, is averaging 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game for Boston University. Sierra Carson, also from Oxford Hills, is contributing to Dartmouth's team.
Additionally, two Maine athletes have been recognized as Division II All-Americans in field hockey. Gracie Moore of Bentley was named first-team All-American, while Jillian McSoreley of Assumption College earned second-team honors. In Division III, Bates College's Haley Dwight and Brooke Moloney-Kolenberg, along with Bowdoin's Emily Ferguson, also received All-American recognition.
