California Electricity Customers to Receive Climate Credit in October

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) customers are set to receive an $81.38 credit on their electricity bills in October. This credit is part of the California Climate Credit program, a state initiative aimed at combating climate change. The program is administered by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

The credit, which is applied twice a year, is designed to provide financial relief to residential customers. The first credit of $81.38 was applied in April. Customers with natural gas service also received an additional $54 credit. In total, residential customers who receive both electric and gas service from SDG&E will see a total of $217 in bill reductions from the California Climate Credit in 2025.

The funds for the credits originate from California's Cap-and-Trade Program. This program requires entities that generate climate pollution to pay for it. The credits are automatically applied to customer bills in April and October each year. No action is required to receive the credit, which will be applied to all gas and electricity customers, including those using community choice aggregation and master-metered systems.

SDG&E encourages customers facing financial difficulties to contact their teams for assistance programs.

BNN's Perspective:

The California Climate Credit program represents a practical approach to addressing climate change while providing tangible financial benefits to consumers. While the program's effectiveness in reducing pollution is a complex issue, the direct financial relief offered to residents is a positive step. The automatic application of the credit simplifies the process, ensuring broad accessibility.
