T20 World Cup 2026: Qualification Update

The field for the 2026 T20 World Cup is beginning to take shape, with 17 teams already securing their spots in the tournament. The qualification process has seen teams from various regions battling for a place on the global stage.

Eight teams automatically qualified based on their performance in the Super 10 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. These include India, Afghanistan, the USA, Bangladesh, Australia, England, South Africa, and the West Indies. Additional teams, such as New Zealand, Ireland, and Pakistan, earned their places based on their rankings. Sri Lanka qualified as a joint host.

The qualification process then moved to regional qualifiers, with different continents allocated varying numbers of spots. Europe and Africa each had two spots available, while the Asia-Eastern Pacific (Asia-EAP) region has three spots up for grabs.

The Netherlands secured their place through the European Qualifiers, while Italy made history by qualifying for their first-ever T20 World Cup. Canada also qualified, marking their second consecutive appearance in the tournament. From the African region, Zimbabwe and Namibia have successfully qualified. The Asia-EAP qualifying process is currently underway, with the final three teams expected to be determined within the next few months.
