Lego Unveils New Luigi Kart Set for Super Mario Fans

Lego is expanding its popular Super Mario line with a new set featuring Luigi and his Mach 8 kart. The set, which is now available for pre-order, is scheduled to launch on April 1st. This follows the release of a similar Mario Kart set last year.

The Luigi and Mach 8 Kart set is a large-scale replica, comprised of 2,234 pieces. It includes a posable Luigi figure and a kart with functional steering, a spinning flame exhaust, and a display stand. The set is designed for display, with an age recommendation of 18 and up. This marks Lego's first realistic depiction of Luigi's modern character model. The figure's head, arms, legs, wrists, ears, and thumbs are jointed, allowing for posing.

The new set is priced at $180. The original Lego Mario and Kart set is available for $170. Lego offers a variety of other Super Mario sets, including smaller builds like the Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi set, the Shy Guy & P-Wing kit, and the Standard Mario Kart build. Some sets, such as the Lego NES and Super Mario 64 Question Block, have been discontinued but may be available through resellers.

BNN's Perspective:

The continued partnership between Lego and Nintendo is a smart move, capitalizing on the enduring popularity of the Super Mario franchise. While the price point of these larger sets may be a barrier for some, the detailed design and collectibility appeal to a dedicated audience. The focus on display models suggests Lego is aiming to attract adult collectors, expanding its market beyond its traditional demographic.
