Kirsten Dunst and Sydney Sweeney to Star in "The Housemaid's Secret"
Lionsgate announced Monday that Kirsten Dunst and Sydney Sweeney will star in "The Housemaid's Secret," the sequel to a global box office success. The original film generated nearly $400 million worldwide.
Paul Feig is set to return as director, along with producers Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Feig and Laura Fischer through Pretty Dangerous Pictures, and Sweeney through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, will write the screenplay based on the bestseller by Freida McFadden.
Michele Morrone will reprise his role as Enzo. Carly Elter and Alex Young will return as executive producers. Kaylee McGregor of Fifty-Fifty Films will co-produce.
The plot of "The Housemaid's Secret" centers on Millie, who takes a job as a housekeeper for a woman she is never allowed to see. She soon uncovers secrets behind a locked door, revealing truths far more sinister than her own.
Dunst's recent projects include "Roofman," "Civil War," and "Power of the Dog." She is also slated to appear in Ruben Östlund's "The Entertainment System Is Down" and has booked a role in "The Minecraft Movie" sequel.
Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the project for Lionsgate, and Robert Melnik brokered the deal on behalf of the studio.
BNN's Perspective: The pairing of Dunst and Sweeney is a compelling choice, promising a strong performance dynamic. The return of Feig and Sonnenshine, along with the success of the first film, suggests a solid foundation for a successful sequel. While the plot details hint at a suspenseful narrative, the film's ultimate success will depend on its execution and ability to deliver on the promise of its intriguing premise.
